PUBLIC SCHOOL -
Advantages - no cost, lots of choices, easily accessible, consistent curriculum, no input needed from parents.
Disadvantages - large classrooms, little personal attention, heavy emphasis on standardized tests, peer pressure and negative influences.
PRIVATE SCHOOL -
Advantages - small classroom, plenty of personal attention, parents' concerns more apt to be addressed, no state standardized tests.
Disadvantages - cost, inconsistent curriculum, lack of electives, lack of competitive opportunities, limited choices, teacher training, limited number of friends.
HOME SCHOOL -
Advantages - small class, lots of personal attention, numerous curriculum options including electives, start/end times negotiable, no limit on field trips or type of learning, hands on experience, no state testing.
Disadvantages - accountability, parents must make all decisions, socialization, limited options for competiive opportunities, possible isolation, must have parent for daiy monitoring.
There is now a 4th choice.
A combination of the current three choices which offers the following:
Small classroom, lots of personal attention, accountability, socialization, field trips, hands on experience, group discussion, currrent events, parents as partners in learning, personalized curriculum options.
We have a new division of NewStarts - the School Yet To Be Named (there will be a contest this year for a name, to be selected by the students).
- Curriculum is chosen by parents. We can offer suggestions, but the decision is up to you.
- Students will attend school at our facility at set times and work at their own pace.
- Monthly field trips to support learning and hands on experience.
- Current events and group discussion encouraged.
- Use your own laptop.
- Basic skill tests given periodically for accountability.
- Personal planning for the future emphasized.
- No peer pressure. No negative influences. Absolutely no bullying allowed.
Is this the perfect school choice??
No. There is no perfect choice. There are some disadvantages to this option as well. We will help you make the best choice for your child, based on future goals and current academic progress. We will meet with you and your child and help you determine which school choice works best for your family.
